Text Box: Phase 1 Testing– Proof of Concept
The prototype barefoot running shoe underwent preliminary testing against the industry gold standard– the ASICS Kayano. Much to our delight, our prototype matched the Kayano’s impact attenuation capacity whilst outclassing the Kayano with the natural gait pattern exhibited. The achievement of this combination of properties is a major achievement in its own right and if confirmed by further study, is expected to translate into improved consumer enjoyment and uptake of running as well as a decreased injury risk for the wearer. A number of key findings are presented below from the in shoe pressure testing. Updates from motion analysis and VO2 (oxygen consumption) studies will be added when they become available, as will data from comparisons with other commercially available footwear such as the Nike Free.

Performance Criteria
1. Are total impact forces increased?
2. Is the body weight bearing as it would in the barefoot state?
